Toyota Kirloskar Motor is all set to launch the new Toyota Hilux pick-up truck in India on Thursday. This will be the first model in the lifestyle pick-up segment by the Japanese automaker to be launched in India. The new Toyota Hilux will use the same platform used in the popular Fortuner SUV in India. The new pick-up truck is also expected to borrow some elements from the facelifted Fortuner SUV, which was first introduced in 2021.
The Toyota Hilux is based on the IMV-2 platform. This platform has also been used in very popular models like Innova Crysta and Fortuner. But Hilux differs from them in many ways. The Toyota Hilux will be Toyota’s second launch of the year after the launch of the 2022 Camry Hybrid earlier this week. The two models could possibly be indistinguishable from each other. Although Hilux can prove to be a big gamble from the company’s side. Because this pickup truck is competing in a segment that is almost non-existent. Therefore, the company will woo a specific group of buyers through this vehicle.
The Toyota Hilux has a long history spanning several decades and has sold several thousand units worldwide. But it is being launched in India for the first time. Perhaps this indicates that Toyota feels the importance of Indian customers to big and bold vehicles here.
Toyota Hilux Look and Design
The Toyota Hilux gets a large hexagonal grille at the front and large LED headlights with DRLs. It gets 18-inch alloy wheels and has been given side steps for easy entry into the cabin. The pickup also gets LED tail light units at the rear. In terms of size, the Hilux dual-cab version measures 5,325 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height.
Toyota Hilux Cabin and Features
Gone are the days when pickup trucks were treated as just an all-purpose vehicles. The new Hilux is expected to come with an 8-inch infotainment screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, among many other features.
Toyota Hilux Engine Power
However, Toyota is yet to reveal the specifications of the upcoming Hilux in India. But it is expected that the 2.8-liter diesel engine can be found in this new vehicle of the company. This engine can generate power of 204 hp and maximum torque of 500 Nm. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. The Toyota Hilux vehicle is also likely to get a 4×4 drive.
Toyota Hilux Expected Price
The starting ex-showroom price of the new Toyota Hilux can be kept at Rs 28 lakh. It will rival the Isuzu V-Cross, which has an initial ex-showroom price of Rs 22 lakh.
