2022 Kia Sportage SUV’s 5th Generation Model Makes Global Debut

Automobile company Kia has made the global debut of the 5th generation of its 2022 Kia Sportage SUV. The SUV has been built on a new architecture. The automaker claims that this new version of the Sportage comes with a driver-centric design with an integrated curved display that is powered by connectivity technology. The new Sportage also gets an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS). Along with this, changes have also been seen in the interior and engine of the car.

Kia Sportage promises to continue a strong product offering from Kia in the markets where it is currently offered. The company had recently said that the 2022 Kia Sportage SUV along with the Seltos has contributed a lot in increasing Kia’s global sales in the month of June. With this, the company expects that the next-generation Kia Sportage model will continue to help sustain sales.

The latest generation model of the Sportage is developed on a new architecture and is claimed to feature a driver-centric design with premium interiors that are highlighted by a large and curved display. This integrated display comes with a variety of connectivity technologies. It is 12-inches large and gets a slim touchscreen pad and is equipped with the latest generation full thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display. It will have OTA updates and includes those required for navigation.

Key highlights of the new Kia Sportage SUV include a center console with soft-touch switches, operating system configuration, upholders, and storage. It also has a place for wireless phone charging.

The 2022 Kia Sportage SUV is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology and has better torsional rigidity. It gets driver airbags, passenger airbags, side curtain airbags, and low-side airbags. It also has Highway Driving Assist which helps drivers maintain a safe distance and speed from the vehicle ahead and helps keep the vehicle on its lane. Some other highlights include navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), blind-spot collision-avoidance assist (BCA), blind-spot view monitor (BVM), and remote smart parking assist (RSPA).

Kia Sportage Engine & Power

The 1.6-liter TGDI engine can be found in the new Sportage SUV. This engine generates power of 177 hp and a peak torque of 265 Nm. It also gets the option of a more powerful R2.0-litre diesel engine. This engine generates power of 183 hp and torque of 416 Nm. The 1.6-liter TGDI engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT) and a 6-speed manual transmission. While the R2.0-litre diesel is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Sportage range will also have a hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.

Kia Sportage Size Specs

The new Kia Sportage measures 4,660 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,660 mm in height. It gets a bigger wheelbase of 2,755 mm. The SUV offers 637 liters of boot space which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats for flat-bed specs.

Kia Sportage Exterior Design

A brand new design has been used in the new premium 5-seater SUV Sportage. The styling influence of the brand new flagship EV6 electric car is also visible in this. Kia’s new design language is called Opposites United. This can be seen as one of the exterior design highlights of the new Sportage. Because of this, the look of this 2022 Kia Sportage SUV is quite aggressive and has a better design character.

A black grille graphic spans the width of the front of the SUV and features boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, behind which are Matrix LED headlights. From the side, the 2022 Kia Sportage SUV gets sturdier body lines and a chrome beltline has also been included. While the rear lights have a slim horizontal design. The floating sideline is now sportier than ever as it slowly rises at the rear and reaches the top on the D-pillar. The upper body of the SUV has also been redesigned, making it more compact than before. The new Sportage gets 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels, depending on the variant and spec.
