Skoda Auto India is all set to start test drives for its customers the upcoming Skoda Slavia premium sedan which is expected to be launched in March. The Czech carmaker started rolling out the first batch of Slavia sedans from its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune this month.
Skoda Slavia Test Drive in March
Jack Hollis, Director of Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India said that the sedan is expected to hit the showrooms in the next few weeks. He said there has been a slight delay in homologation. It is a process of certification that a particular vehicle is road-worthy and matches certain criteria set by the government. However, Hollis has confirmed that the test drive will begin in March.
Skoda is betting big with Slavia to revive the sedan segment in India. The popularity of SUVs and hatchbacks in recent years has dampened interest in the segment to some extent. According to media reports, Hollis recently said that Slavia is important because ‘no one has launched anything new. There is no risk to the sedan. Christian Kahn von Selen, Chairman, Skoda Auto India said, “The Slavia will not only drive the premium sedan segment but will also showcase Skoda’s expertise, pedigree, and heritage with the sedan in terms of design, packaging, dynamics, technology, and value ”
Skoda Slavia Replace Rapid
The official bookings for Skoda Slavia are already open across the country. Apart from the upcoming Slavia, Skoda also sells the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb sedans in the country. The Slavia will join Skoda’s premium sedan line-up. The Skoda Slavia is set to replace the company’s other car, the Rapid, which is unlikely to make a comeback in India with a facelift.
Skoda Slavia Bigger than Rapid
The Slavia is Skoda’s second car after the Kushaq SUV based on the made-in-India MQB A0 IN platform. The sedan model lineup will be available in three trims – Active, Ambition, and Style. The overall length of the new Skoda sedan is 4541 mm, width is 1752 mm and height is 1487 mm. It has a wheelbase of 2651 mm, which is the longest in its segment. Compared to the Rapid, the Slavia is 128 mm longer, 53 mm wider, and 20 mm higher. It is also bigger than the first-generation Octavia.
Skoda Slavia Engine Power
The new Skoda sedan will be made available with two TSI turbocharged petrol engines. The first is the 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder TSI engine. This engine generates power of 115 bhp and torque of 178 Nm. It can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The sedan will also be available with a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder TSI petrol engine. This engine generates 148 bhp power and 250 Nm torque. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
Skoda Slavia Features
The interior layout of the new Slavia is similar to that of the Octavia. Some of its switchgear and trims seem to have been borrowed from the Kushaq, including buttons, touch-based climate control, and a two-spoke steering wheel. It gets a dashboard integrated 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. There are AC vents just below the info unit. The sedan gets a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charging pad, ventilated seats, leather upholstery, auto-dimming internal rearview mirror, keyless entry, connected car features, and many more. According to the report, the entry-level Active trim will come with a 7-inch touchscreen info unit.
Skoda Slavia Safety Features
In terms of safety features, the new Slavia sedan gets 6 airbags, a rear parking camera, ISOFIX child seat mount, hill hold control (optional), an electronic differential system (EDS), multi-collision brakes, and a tire pressure monitor system. . The new Skoda sedan gets the largest wheelbase in the segment, thereby providing more legroom.
Skoda Slavia Exterior Look and Style
In terms of exterior look and styling, the upcoming Skoda sedan gets the brand’s signature butterfly grille along with sleek headlamps with L-shaped DRLs and fog lamps with an inverted L-shaped motif. Its sloping roofline is found in the boot lid. Whereas bold character lines can be seen from the shoulders to the taillamps. The side profile is adorned with 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (only for the top-end trim) and chrome trim around the window line. The rear of the car gets C-shaped LED taillamps and a bumper with a chrome strip.
Skoda Slavia Color Option
The automaker has revealed that its new mid-size sedan will be offered in five color schemes. These include colors like Candy White, Tornado Red, Carbon Steel, Reflex Silver, and Crystal Blue.
Skoda Slavia Price and Competition
Post-launch, the Skoda Slavia will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus in the mid-size sedan segment in India. The Skoda Slavia price is expected to be in the range of Rs.10 Lakh to Rs.17 Lakh ex-showroom.
