BMW iX Launched in India

BMW is all set to introduce the BMW iX SUV, its first fully electric vehicle in India. Launching on December 11, the BMW iX will go on sale in India via the CBU route. BMW is about to enter the premium electric SUV segment in India with the iX. The BMW iX electric car will compete with SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi e-Tron in India.

BMW iX Two Variants

The BMW iX is based on an all-new aluminum spaceframe and is almost identical in size to the BMW X5. The car uses BMW’s fifth-generation all-electric platform, which includes two electric motors. In the international market, the BMW iX comes in two variants – xDrive 40 and xDrive 50.

BMW iX Driving Range

The 71 kWh battery pack is available in the BMW iX xDrive 40 variant. This battery pack gives a maximum range of 414 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle). The dual motor’s output is 322 BHP and 630 Nm. While the xDrive 50 variant uses a 105.2 kWh battery pack, which gives a maximum range of 611 km. This variant generates 516 BHP of power and 765 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 4.6 seconds.

BMW iX Battery and Charging

The BMW iX also gets the option of a fast-charging system, which enables DC fast-charging up to 195kW. With this, the battery of the xDrive 50 variant can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 35 minutes. Whereas, the iX xDrive 40 takes just 31 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent using a DC charger.

BMW iX Fast Charger

BMW also offers an 11kW AC Wallbox fast charger with the IX. Through this, the battery of the xDrive 50 variant can be charged from 0 percent to 100 percent in less than 11 hours. While the xDrive 40 variant takes around 7.5 hours to fully charge. However, it remains to be seen whether BMW offers an AC Wallbox charger as standard with the iX, like its rivals.

BMW iX Design & Style

The design of the BMW iX was first previewed by iNext Concept in 2017. It flaunts a futuristic look of BMW cars, with several EV-specific elements that differentiate it from the brand’s ICE models. The front look of the iX is offered with BMW’s familiar large kidney grille.

However, since there is no need to air the radiator, the grille has been closed and there are many cameras, radars, and sensors required for the Driver Assistance System. In the iX, BMW’s traditional Corona Light graphic has been replaced with a light band at the top of the slim headlamp assembly. The same sleek design has been given in the tail lamps as well.

BMW iX Features

The BMW iX has more interior space than the X7 due to its dedicated electric architecture. The iX gets a flat floor and a large interior with natural materials. Recyclable plastic has also been used for its seats including a new microfiber cloth.

BMW iX Display

The real highlights of the interiors are its hexagonal steering wheel and large curved display that acts as an instrument cluster and infotainment unit. The single-piece curved glass houses a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment display, both of which are on the driver’s side. It also gets a redesigned head-up display.

BMW iX Space

Since it is an electric vehicle, it does not get any central console. Controls for Drive Select and BMW’s iDrive rotary controls are set within the front section of the armrest. Other controls are set at the top of the door trims. The iX offers a boot space of 650 liters.
